Why Workers May not Wear Safety Apparel

Safety work wear is offered to workers so as to provide a safe working environment taking into consideration the dangers and risks posed by the work environment. While workers are going to appreciate the provision of safety work wear especially where it is done on the company’s dime, it is important to keep in mind that there are multiple cases of them not wearing the apparel even when working in risky environments. Below we will look at some important reasons why workers may be compelled not to wear safety apparel.

Ill-fitting Safety Apparel

Where the safety apparel provided to workers is not fitted to each worker then it is bound to be either a size bigger or smaller. Ill-fitting shoes tend to restrict the wearers movement in most cases making it even riskier to work while wearing such shoes. Where the safety apparel includes a jacket, the same effect can be seen. Longer sleeves can be a risk to work with in cases where they are caught by moving parts of come into contact with flames. It is therefore highly important to source perfectly fitting safety work wear so that workers always feel safer while wearing it.

Quality of the Apparel

Depending on the quality of the safety apparel provided by the company, workers may feel that it does not provide as much safety as it is supposed to. With this mentality, workers are bound to resultantly do away with wearing the safety apparel and opt for normal clothing since the apparel is only for aesthetic purposes. This shows how important it is for employers/companies to buy safety apparel that is high quality. By making safety apparel purchases with the input of workers, the workers will feel more confident of the protective properties of the apparel and hence always wear it.
